I can't wait to meet my new niece hopefully sometime this year (they live on the East Coast) the last time we visited baby had not yet arrived.
Newborns. I remember those spit up-t-shirt, when-am-I-going-to-be-able-to-take-a-bath, what-day-is-it-anyway, walking like a zombie times. I miss those.
C-boy found my wee wonderfuls pattern book and wanted a bear.... so here is Shushi bear (yes, like the raw fish/rice kind, his lisp just cracks me up). He loved picking out his own fabrics for it. The embroidery is really off (giving it 'character' of course!), but he didn't seem to mind.
Shushi has a bit of a juicy kiss on his head. Looks like I might be making one for c-girl soon.
Crazy week. C-girls birthday and its a-humming here with class party cupcakes, favor making and plans for a BUNCH of kids going to see this. I've been working on these favor totes(12 of them)the past couple of days, so my brain is all nice and mushy.
We also made homemade shrinky dinks like these. Surprisingly easy,(green too, since we got to use some throw away containers i had no idea what to do with) and totally worked! A couple had to be redone, but they made for some durable (although a bit wavy) favor tags, and cheap (actually free) fun.
To the girl that loves the rain, all animals(especially the baby ones), and Spongebob Squarepants. This girl that hates dirt in all forms, who will make the craziest faces to make her father laugh, who loves her brother, can't stand her brother, then starts all over again.
This child that stole my heart 8 years ago and continues to surprise me with her wit, charm and her daddy's true stubborn streak. Happy Birthday my little girl, don't ever stop dancing to the beat of your own drum.
Finally got around to making a cover for my sewing machine. I would normally not care but since it sits right next to the tv in the family room, its kind of something that needed to be done sooner or later.
I used some fabric I bought from etsy (aviary and green joel dewberry faux bois for the sides). It took all of an hour and a half to measure, pin and sew - would have been faster had I measured correctly the first time and then I wouldn't have had to repin three times.
Underneath, inside the table, is the 1967 sewing machine from my great aunt, which made me swear like a sailor when I used it, now its just a landing place for my new machine.

I also made a new tablecloth with nigella fabric. A little busier than I'm used to, but it adds some color to an otherwise very white area of the house.
Wow, I really have to figure out how to use this new powershot... this is what happens when you're too lazy to look for the camera guide.
I made some blankets for some brand new babies for Christmas... that minky fabric is a bear to work with, but sooo soft.
I made a bag for my little girl, she wanted a fabric that came from her old night gown as the lining. Notice how I don't even show the lining since it wasn't the neatest work I've done. Remind me not to work with anymore stretchy fabric. Sew, rip, jab finger many times, repeat. Since I'm such a novice sewer, these easy projects are fine but cotton is so much kinder to me.
I didn't really mind sewing it in the end (when I was finally finished, of course) since she really does appreciate things that I make for her. She still uses the pillow I made for her last Christmas.

And on an unrelated note, I decided to untangle my necklaces and sort some out. I saw one of these on VivaTerra.... mine was much cheaper(free ninety-nine), and not nearly as pretty since it came from my meyer lemon tree outside. It doesn't give me lemons so I thought it should earn its keep doing something else. I'm planning to get a bigger one and spray paint it bronze.
I'm so late to the summer craftin' party(the one in my head), but I made some new pillows too. Makes it feel sunshine-y in here.
As if its not hot enough....
Some friends and I threw a small afternoon tea baby shower for a sweet friend. I was in charge of favors.
I knew it was going to be a boy. So as I walked out of the chocolate store with my purchases, claiming to my husband "Aren't these ladybugs cute?", realizing then that ladybugs aren't really bouncing baby boy material. Sometimes my thinking gets clouded when my mind says "hey, thats cute!". Whatever else is in my brain just gets pushed to the side.
What makes it more girly is that I had already purchased a bunch of white porcelain teacups from the thrift store to put the dainty ladys in. Amazing what you can get for 49 cents.
Anyway, I tried to macho them up by using blue tissue, and black and white ribbon.
Well, they tasted pretty good anyway!
I finally decided after much hemming and hawing (get it? hemming? oh, whatever) to shorten it. It looked okay longer, but it was kind of dark, and being a debbie downer in the kitchen. Which is not what I was going for. I just shortened by a few inches and it makes a difference in the 'tude of the area. Sorry, such a bad picture, I had to take this at night.
Now if I could just get someone in here to cook something....
I finally got my window done for my kitchen. Yes, its an odd length and makes it a little dark. I did that purposely. Okay, not really. See, I knew it was a little long, and yet I still made it that way so that when the sun comes through really hot in the afternoon it won't be so crazy. But now that I look at it, it looks a bit funny. I could flip it once more and sew it shorter...but that whole sun in my face thing.
Hmmm... any suggestions?
And yes, the tan on the sides are because I cut it too short so I had to somehow make up the difference. Either that or I like the extra work. Uh, yeah.
